Locking Mailbox

We finally got around to installing our new locking mailbox this weekend, and yesterday I got the stickers to put the numbers on it. It sure is nice to know that our mail is all safely locked up so no identity theives can get at it - an ounce of prevention, etc.
Of course, we don't know if any of our mail ever did get (or ever would have gotten) taken, but the neighbors have told us that they used to lose their magazines and newspapers a lot, so now most of them pick up their mail at the post office. I'm MUCH too lazy to stop by the Post Office on my way home every day, so we ordered this mailbox from Oregon Trail Box. We looked at several different ones but Cary wasn't satisfied that they would keep our mail safe enough. Plus, this one is made of extra heavy metal, so it is supposed to be baseball-bat proof, which will probably come in handy. Better to pay a little more for that up front than to have to replace the whole thing some day.

I just bookmarked that link! We have lost 5 mailboxes in the 11 years we've lived out here. Two to the snow plows, 2 to car accidents and 1 to a round of mailbox baseball. I'll have to show these to hubby and get one ordered!

Thanks for sharing!

Wow, thats a lot of mailboxes to have to replace! Over here we don't have enough snow to really have to worry about snowplows, but where I grew up that was a major problem. Nearly everyone rigged up their mailboxes on some kind of a swivel or hung them from chains so that when the plow hit they'd just swing out of the way. I'm not sure how you'd go about that with one of these locking ones, but I'm sure it could be done. Good luck!

All this talk of mailbox baseball reminds me of a funny story involving Cary's Chevy Citation... but I guess that this is a story for another time and place.

There was a time when I would have seen this as a challenge. My how we change over the years.

Given what I know about all y'all's teen hijinks, I figure we need all the protection we can get. It's scary to think about all that bad karma coming back around...
